Beauty hacks, tips and tricks

Hello beauties,

Today I’m going to share some of my favourite beauty hacks, or you could call them tips and tricks.

Those who know me well know that I am obsessed with ‘hacks’! Life hacks, beauty hacks, cleaning/organization hacks you name it I’ve probably tried them all!
I will happily sit for hours and watch hacks videos on YouTube, well.. because I have no life obviously… There is just something so entertaining about them.
So without further rambling, lets get onto it…..

Using baby powder for oily hair instead of dry shampoo

Now I definitely love me a good dry shampoo however this is a goody and an oldy that I have been doing since school days (that’s a long time ago for those wondering) well and truly before ‘dry shampoos’ were even a thing.
The tip with this one is to put the powder onto a brush and brush it through your hair.
You want to make sure you don’t have any visible powder anywhere on your head of course. And don’t use too much you don’t want to look like you are going grey!

Drying nails under cold running water

to use
When I first started doing this I hadn’t read about it anywhere I was just in a rush one day and thought why not try drying them in cold water.
This hack is obviously great for those people like myself that do not have the patients to sit around and wait for nails to dry and even when I do spend the extra time drying I still always manage to knock them on something and ruin all that hard work!

Hairspray on a spooly to tame and set brows in place

20170820_132012
Now you could just use a brow gel or something along those lines but when your all out or want to try something else then this one works great.
Using a clean spooly (which you can buy in bulk at most drug stores/pharmacies) spray some hair spray onto the spooly and then comb through your eyebrows, style them the way you want and they should be good to stay like that all day long.

Line your waterline with a white eyeliner to make your eyes appear bigger and brighter
eyeliner

Using a white eyeliner in your waterline can create the illusion of bigger eyes, just as using black eyeliner on the bottom waterline can close your eyes in and make them look smaller. So try accentuating your eyes with this hack

Clean your makeup brushes often

20170816_140609

Okay so this tip really is a no brainer but I myself cannot even take this tip on board, I definitely do clean my brushes… but often? Nope! Just being honest!
I clean my brushes when I notice they need washing this could be around every 2 to 3 months. However I don’t use my brushes daily.
One of the main reasons you should clean your makeup brushes is they harbor bacteria and then you go and use that brush and wipe it all over your face! And that ladies and gentlemen is how you get breakouts! So go get cleaning!!

Fixing broken makeup with rubbing alcohol

Now this one I have not yet tried but have been meaning to do so. I have a broken eyeshadow that I want to save. And I think this is an awesome trick to save any powder product that could crack and break.
The idea is to break your product up into a fine powder and then add some rubbing alcohol and press back into container and let it dry. I am going to attempt this myself one day soon and will make a post on it so stay tuned for that one.

Well that’s it for my favourite beauty hacks, hope you enjoyed the read and even try some out yourself, if you do let me know in the comments or if you use these hacks already let me know.
If you have any other great hacks I’d love you to share them with me in the comments, I’m always on the lookout for more hacks!

Everyday Makeup Routine

Hello Lovelies,

Today I am going to run through my typical everyday makeup routine. This is sort of my ‘go to’ makeup for any day event or outing, I just change the eyes up for a more dramatic look if I am going out for an evening or dinner etc. and I might also deepen my contour and change lips of course.

I always start with a clean moisturised face

20170808_154201

I have been using this Kora Moisturiser recently

Then I use a primer, I currently use this Inika primer on my cheeks and chin and for my nose area I use the Garnier 5 sec blur to help minimise my pores

The foundation I am currently using is Lóreal True Match in the lightest shade they have cause I am so pale! Colour 1R Rose Ivory

I dot this on my face and then blend it with my foundation brush

The concealer I use is Rimmel ‘wake me up’

I then set my foundation with the Estee Lauder powder in colour ‘ecru’

For brows I use the Estee Lauder Brow Now pencil in light brunette

I contour with this cream concealer contour palette, I actually purchased this one off of eBay and I love it.

Using a mixture of the two darkest brown shades I contour my face using a brush.
I only do the basics as this is my quick everyday makeup. For a night out I would contour far more then this

I then go in with a bronzer, the bronzer I use is Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess

Whilst I am busy sitting at my makeup desk beautifying myself I have a little helper… He sits under my desk with his toys and plays, however this time he was annoying and wanting attention and when I captured this picture he was sooking (hence the duck lip look he is giving) could put some lipstick on those lips!

Well I hope you all enjoyed today’s post, learning about my everyday makeup look.

Have a great week!

Garnier Perfect Blur 5 sec

Hi Lovelies,

Hope your all having a great week!
Today I have a quick review of a product I purchased awhile ago now and have been using for quite some time.

The Garnier Perfect Blur 5 sec

1 2
It is a smoothing base perfector. It claims to visibly reduce the appearance of wrinkles, imperfections, pores and shine in just 5 seconds! Using light reflectors. “Immediately skin looks younger”

I personally struggle with very enlarged pores on my nose 😦 they are so big and no matter what I do they never seem to appear minimized.
Big pores are my enemy!
I also get a very oily nose (from the sebum in the pores) and occasionally get pimples around that area aswell. However I also get peeling dry skin on my nose too either from using really drying products to try minimize pore size or to help with pimples orrrr from….. well I hate to admit it but yes it is true I cannot help myself and sometimes squeeze my nose to clear the pores! I know that this is naughty and I shouldn’t do it but as I said I can’t help it, it’s like the devil on my shoulder is encouraging me whilst the angel is on strike.
Point is some days the skin on my nose is not co-operating and it needs a bit of extra help to make the foundation sit better and look flawless. Plus I will try just about anything that says it helps to minimize or ‘blur’ the look of pores!
So when I saw this at Priceline I obviously had to try it. I used a little on back of my hand whilst in store and as it says it blurred the look of pores and smoothed in less than 5 seconds.
I liked the feel of it and went ahead and purchased.

I now use this product daily on my nose area only. You can use it all over your face however I only require it on my nose.
I find it a great product for what I need it to do. Smooth my nose area and blur any imperfections and pores.
It doesn’t necessarily fully cover or disguise the pores but it does help minimize the look of them and make them not so obvious when your up close and personal looking right at my face! ;o
It gives a base for my foundation to stick to when foundation just won’t stay.
And makes my skin feel silky smooth like velvet.

Price is not exactly cheap at about $17 for 22mls.

If you have tried this product yourself I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Or if you have ideas, remedies, products or anything that I can try for these damn pores I would also love you forever if you shared your knowledge with me 🙂

Cleansing, skincare, makeup removing, night routine

Hello Beauties,
This is a post that I had started some time ago now and I wanted to still post it because it is still somewhat relevant.
My night routine is always changing with life. When I’m working I tend to have a different cleansing routine to when I’m at home and don’t leave the house for the day.

So today I’m gonna chat to you about one of my older personal skincare/cleansing routines.

I’m sure you’ve all heard many times before that you should always cleanse your face and take your makeup off at the end of the day before going to sleep. You should never sleep with your makeup on, why? Well let me tell you why…

Our skin in covered in pores, your pores secrete sebum that helps protect skin, moisturise and removes dead skin cells and other irritants from our pores.
However if you have makeup on you are blocking the pores and not allowing the sebum to come through and then possibly helping start acne and clogged pores, which could also then lead to enlarged pores!! And take it from me… you do not want enlarged pores! They naastay!
Also during the night time is when your skin is repairing itself and if it’s covered in a layer of foundation it’s not going to be able to do that effectively.

Having worked in the beauty industry I always get asked the question, “why do I need to have a makeup remover and a cleanser? Can’t I just use one of them?”
Well ladies and gentleman that brings me to the rule of 2 step cleansing or double cleansing, there are many names for this process.
It is the process of removing the makeup on your face before and as well as using a cleansing product to cleanse skin.
If you are not removing makeup and dirt from your face then your other products are not going to work as effectively.
To get optimal value from your cleansers, serums, treatments, moisturisers etc. you need to first remove makeup dirt and any impurities on your face that you may have captured throughout the day, this can be done using a facial wipe, makeup remover on a cotton pad, makeup removing lotions, balms, creams or oils etc. Second step is to cleanse your face with any cleanser of your choice cream, gel, lotion, foaming, oil etc. there is endless options.

Anyway moving on I like to change up my skincare routine every now and then to try new products and new ways of cleansing my skin to find what works best for me.
This was my routine I use to follow. I’d do this every night, especially if I had been at work and had a full face of makeup on.

First off I like to make sure I have my hair up and out of my face because there is nothing more annoying when your trying to wash your face and your hair is getting stuck to you!

micellar To start removing my eye makeup I use Garnier Micellar water. Also one of my favourite products.

4
Soaking 2 cotton pads in it and then holding them onto my eyes for about 20 seconds to let the product soak in and lift the eye makeup. I then gently wipe any excess off of my eyes.

2If I have really heavy eye makeup I like to use Estee Lauder Gentle Eye Makeup Remover, but I prefer the Micellar water.

7
I then use these smartskin facial cleansing wipes to remove as much makeup off of my face as I can.8
I then wet my face and massage my Garnier daily cleansing gel wash onto my face and then rinse my face off.1
Depending whether I feel I need it or not I will then sometimes use St. Ives apricot scrub.

3
It is an exfoliating scrub however I don’t recommend using it every day, about 2 times a week should be enough depending on your skin.
You should never exfoliate your skin every day, it is too much and too harsh for the skin. You can cause irritation to your skin or acne.

5

After I have finished cleansing I then soak a cotton pad in my Garnier daily pore reducing toner and wipe that over my face, focusing on my T-zone.

After I have removed my makeup and cleansed my face I then go ahead with applying my skincare products

DSCN1343

I use Advanced Night Repair Serum all over my face

ANR eye

I then use Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum around my eye area

day wear
And then follow up with moisturiser. Moisturising for me is very important even if I skip my serums I always moisturise or my skin feels dry, tight and uncomfortable.
I either use Estee Lauder DayWear which is my favourite all time moisturiser.

6Or I use Cetaphil moisturising lotion.

I always finish up with some sort of lip balm/moisturiser which ever is closest at the time.
I get dry lips easily and I always feel more comfortable with lip balm on.

So this is what I have been doing as of recently and I find that it is working great for me and my skin.

Have you used any of these products? What do you think of them?
I would love to hear about your cleansing routine, leave me a comment below telling me what products you like to use.

Hope you all have a great day!
