This is a post that I had started some time ago now and I wanted to still post it because it is still somewhat relevant.
My night routine is always changing with life. When I’m working I tend to have a different cleansing routine to when I’m at home and don’t leave the house for the day.
So today I’m gonna chat to you about one of my older personal skincare/cleansing routines.
I’m sure you’ve all heard many times before that you should always cleanse your face and take your makeup off at the end of the day before going to sleep. You should never sleep with your makeup on, why? Well let me tell you why…
Our skin in covered in pores, your pores secrete sebum that helps protect skin, moisturise and removes dead skin cells and other irritants from our pores.
However if you have makeup on you are blocking the pores and not allowing the sebum to come through and then possibly helping start acne and clogged pores, which could also then lead to enlarged pores!! And take it from me… you do not want enlarged pores! They naastay!
Also during the night time is when your skin is repairing itself and if it’s covered in a layer of foundation it’s not going to be able to do that effectively.
Having worked in the beauty industry I always get asked the question, “why do I need to have a makeup remover and a cleanser? Can’t I just use one of them?”
Well ladies and gentleman that brings me to the rule of 2 step cleansing or double cleansing, there are many names for this process.
It is the process of removing the makeup on your face before and as well as using a cleansing product to cleanse skin.
If you are not removing makeup and dirt from your face then your other products are not going to work as effectively.
To get optimal value from your cleansers, serums, treatments, moisturisers etc. you need to first remove makeup dirt and any impurities on your face that you may have captured throughout the day, this can be done using a facial wipe, makeup remover on a cotton pad, makeup removing lotions, balms, creams or oils etc. Second step is to cleanse your face with any cleanser of your choice cream, gel, lotion, foaming, oil etc. there is endless options.
Anyway moving on I like to change up my skincare routine every now and then to try new products and new ways of cleansing my skin to find what works best for me.
This was my routine I use to follow. I’d do this every night, especially if I had been at work and had a full face of makeup on.
First off I like to make sure I have my hair up and out of my face because there is nothing more annoying when your trying to wash your face and your hair is getting stuck to you!
I then use these smartskin facial cleansing wipes to remove as much makeup off of my face as I can.
I then wet my face and massage my Garnier daily cleansing gel wash onto my face and then rinse my face off.
Depending whether I feel I need it or not I will then sometimes use St. Ives apricot scrub.
It is an exfoliating scrub however I don’t recommend using it every day, about 2 times a week should be enough depending on your skin.
You should never exfoliate your skin every day, it is too much and too harsh for the skin. You can cause irritation to your skin or acne.
After I have finished cleansing I then soak a cotton pad in my Garnier daily pore reducing toner and wipe that over my face, focusing on my T-zone.
After I have removed my makeup and cleansed my face I then go ahead with applying my skincare products
I use Advanced Night Repair Serum all over my face
I then use Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum around my eye area
And then follow up with moisturiser. Moisturising for me is very important even if I skip my serums I always moisturise or my skin feels dry, tight and uncomfortable.
I either use Estee Lauder DayWear which is my favourite all time moisturiser.
I always finish up with some sort of lip balm/moisturiser which ever is closest at the time.
I get dry lips easily and I always feel more comfortable with lip balm on.
So this is what I have been doing as of recently and I find that it is working great for me and my skin.
Have you used any of these products? What do you think of them?
I would love to hear about your cleansing routine, leave me a comment below telling me what products you like to use.
Hope you all have a great day!
